Monica Chavez, ASLA

Design Associate, ASLA

Monica is a landscape designer born and raised in the south side of Oklahoma City. She graduated from US Grant High School in 2015 and attained a degree in landscape architecture from Oklahoma State University in 2020. She then proceeded to work in Dallas, TX where she assisted on the design, drafting, and construction oversight for modern residential projects in the DFW metro area that demanded respect and advocacy for native Texas landscapes. As a daughter of immigrants, Monica is strongly rooted in her Mexican heritage and ties to the hispanic/latino community. She spent nearly every summer of her childhood visiting family in Mexico, and most of her adolescent years participating in leadership and development programs geared toward empowering low-income and minority students. During her undergraduate years at OSU, she led thriving organizations dedicated to creating safe spaces for minority students on campuses in Oklahoma and around the country. While her training and development have challenged her to be an advocate for the preservation and restoration of native landscapes during the integration of the built and natural worlds, Monica’s upbringing and cultural background inspire her to explore how landscape architecture can be an avenue for safer, healthier, and better connected spaces for underrepresented communities in Oklahoma City.
