806 Dean McGee is a charming cluster of early 20th century buildings located in downtown OKC. A new parking lot was designed in a building void created by fire, while an alley set-back was converted into courtyards for tenants.
Clean minimal courtyards with tables and chairs connect to the southern facade of the building through several windows, doors and overhead garage doors. The shaded space filled with plantings serves as outdoor office or break space, as well as an attractive entry sequence from the parking area.
Working within the footprint of the former building LAUD designed multiple parking scheme options where all available surface area is used wisely to facilitate a maximum amount of parking and a logical system of ingress and egress from the lot.
Custom fencing defines the east and west courtyards while large sliding gates knit them into a single larger space when needed. The common space between the courtyards allows for large deliveries to be made to the buildings.
The fencing extends to the parking lot with an automized entry gate for security. Water falling on the parking area during rain events is directed to trees and perennial plantings. Trees along the western boundary will, in time, create a shaded parking area helping to cool cars and ambient temperatures.
