The park is visited by 500,000 + visitors per year. LAUD looked at visitor patterns and crafted a plant selection with interest to take advantage of peak visitation times.

We worked with local and regional nurseries to source the vast plant palette.

Trees were tagged across the region for placement throughout the park, which include street trees, promenade trees, and trees for the woodland area - a recreation of the Oklahoma Cross Timbers.

In the upper park, it has been rewarding to see the way trees and plants have established and thrived over the past 4 years. The horticulture crew at Scissortail Park is doing a great job of taking care of this city gem.

It was critical to maintain proper plant spacing and alignment for multiple plantings throughout the lower park. This planting alone is home to 6,000, 1 gallon pots of Sporobolus heterolepis, prairie dropseed.

1 gallon pots of Panicum virgatum, Eringium yuccifolium, Echinacea purpurea and Bapstisia australis are among the plants flourishing on the slope directly south of Skydancer Bridge. 12 months from planting, this Oklahoma native slope is well established and already hosting multitudes of wildlife.

Existing trees in the lower park were graded and recommendations made to allow older trees to anchor spaces while new trees establish. Additionally, LAUD inspected new trees at nurseries prior to shipment as well as upon delivery at the park. Once installed each tree was evaluated and tagged. They were then monitored for the duration of park construction.

New trees and an Oklahoma native seed mix is thriving along the west side of the path.

During construction of the lower park, LAUD oversaw plant arrangement and spacing to ensure successful establishment and long term health of gardens.
